Understanding Your MedRemind Adherence Score

What Is an Adherence Score?

Your MedRemind adherence score is a percentage that represents how many of your scheduled doses you took on time over a given period. A score of 100% means you took every dose as scheduled. A score of 80% means you took 8 out of every 10 scheduled doses. Most healthcare professionals consider 80% or higher to be acceptable adherence, though the ideal is as close to 100% as possible.

How the Score Is Calculated

The adherence score is calculated as:

(Number of doses taken on time / Total number of scheduled doses) x 100

A dose is considered "on time" if it was logged within the grace period you set for each medication. For example, if your grace period is one hour and your medication is scheduled for 8:00 AM, logging the dose any time between 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM counts as on time.

Viewing Your Score

Your overall adherence score is displayed on the MedRemind dashboard. You can also view individual scores for each medication by tapping on the medication name. The app provides daily, weekly, monthly, and all-time views so you can track your progress over different time periods.

What a Low Score Means

A consistently low adherence score may indicate:

  • Your reminder times do not align with your actual schedule
  • Side effects are causing you to skip doses
  • The medication routine is too complex
  • You are forgetting despite reminders, which may point to a need for additional support

Tips to Improve Your Score

  • Adjust reminder times to match when you are actually available to take medications
  • Use follow-up reminders to catch missed doses before the grace period ends
  • Simplify your regimen by asking your doctor about combination pills or extended-release options
  • Set realistic grace periods that account for your daily variability

Share Your Score With Your Doctor

Your adherence score is a conversation starter. If your score is lower than you would like, bring it up with your doctor. Together, you can identify barriers and find solutions. If your score is high but your condition is not improving, your doctor knows the issue is likely not adherence and can explore other explanations.
